PURCHASED ON IN 2019? Do this to save on property taxes

Texas law allows homeowners to file for Homestead Exemption on your primary residence if you purchased the home in 2019 and occupied the house as your primary home as on January 1, 2020. It allows $25000 to be taken off from the assessed value on your property, saving money on the property taxes. For example, if the assessed value of the property is $400,000 you can save $360/yr!

The process is simple by completing the HOMESTEAD exemption form from your county website. Most counties would need the drivers’ license that shows your new home address to be submitted along with the HOMESTEAD exemption form. The deadline to submit will be April 30, 2020.
